For me, a big part of the reuzr ethos is not only being ok with the imperfect, but actually embracing it and taking pride in it. The quest for perfection leads to the cycle of endless consumption that results in massive landfill sites and terrible environment consequences. Ideal solutions are those that succeed in diverting things from landfill and putting them back into productive use.
With that spirit, I present a new reuzr element: The Finder of Lost (G)loves.*
When I walk and ride around the city, I often come across single gloves that have been dropped on the street and sidewalk. These gloves are destined for landfill…along with their original partner, which presumably is no longer of use to the owner. A new glove purchase is imminent…the cycle continues. So I started picking up the gloves, bringing them home, and washing them.
Going forward, any glove that seems wearable (i.e., no holes or other flaws) will be photographed and posted here. People can check to see what’s available and request one (or more). People can also send/give me their gloves to add to the collection. Some will be given away to people who want and need them.
*What’s up with the name? In the mid-80s a TV show appeared called The Finder of Lost Loves (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finder_of_Lost_Loves). For some reason, my brother and I thought this was the stupidest/funniest idea for a show we could imagine so it became a running (and deep inside) joke. But here’s the amazing thing: the star of the show was a fellow named ANTHONY Franciosa. And, despite there being no proof of this fact, I’m absolutely certain that the combination of the star’s name and the idea of the show were a reference to the patron saint of lost things, St. ANTHONY of Padua (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_of_Padua). My calling to carry on their legacy is now clear.
